Buona Pasquetta (Easter Monday) a tutti! 

Continuing in the spring vegetables theme, here is a recipe for seasonal artichokes prepared with an unusual black rice called riso nero Venere -- a variety produced by crossing the Italian Padano rice variety with an ancient black rice from China that was known as "forbidden" rice, as it was so rare that it was reserved for the Emperor's court alone.

This nutty, aromatic rice pairs well with spring vegetables like artichokes and asparagus, or crustaceans like shrimp and lobster. As an added bonus, this whole grain is highly nutritious, rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
