| | No, I don't have anything against these three foods, it's just that there's some awfully good reasons to make them at home, rather than purchase them. | | Salad dressings Yes, avoid purchasing salad dressings! As you know, they aren't a bargain at several dollars a bottle, and nearly all of them are filled with high fructose corn syrup (don't believe me? Read the label!) and many have a shocking amount of fat in them. Make your own! Here's my favorite vegan salad dressing recipes.
| Hummus I do purchase hummus from time to time, but there's really no excuse. And yes, many store-bought hummus dips are filled with a shocking list of chemical ingredients including, yes, high fructose corn syrup. No matter what you have on hand, there's no excuse for not making your own hummus. No tahini? No chickpeas? No problem.
| Seitan I may be guilty of picking up a bottle of salad dressing from time to time, and yes, even some hummus, but I honestly can't even remember the last time I bought pre-made seitan! I think it must have been sometime around 2006. Seriously. Yes, you can't beat the convenience of a ready-made mock meat, but the price difference between store-bought and homemade is just shocking. Make your own seitan. Nuff said.
