As we welcome winter and end of the year celebrations begin, two of the most important foods in Japanese cuisine quickly come to mind: mochi (rice cakes) and any type of food that might be remotely involved with the Japanese New Year (Oshogatsu) feast, known as "osechi ryori". One traditional food is kamaboko, or fish cake. Try kamaboko garnished with spicy mentaiko caviar as a beautiful and flavorful appetizer or as a new Oshogatsu dish!
