Stop buying salad dressing!

Salad dressing is high on my list of things vegans (or anyone eating healthy!) should never, ever buy! Why pay $3 or more for a bottle of nothing more than oil and sugar, when you can make your own easily at home?

If you have a blender or a food processor, then there's really no excuse for not making your own homemade dressings! Yes, it takes a little time, but you can make a big batch since they'll usually keep just fine.

Vegan Salad Dressings

Is it possible to have the perfect green salad without the perfect salad dressing? I think not! Store-bought salad dressings are nearly always full of little more than oil and high-fructose corn syrup (don't believe me? Read the label!) and I personally find the vegan dressings to be hit and miss (store-bought goddess dressing, for example, is nearly always fantastic, but vegan ranch dressing? Meh.).

Even if you love store-bought vegan salad dressing, making your own at home is a bargain and easy to do. I try to always keep some on hand. If I don't use it on a green salad, I'll use it on leftover quinoa, a rice salad or something or other sooner or later!

Here's a complete collection of vegan salad dressing recipes you can make at home.

3 foods vegans should never buy

Along with salad dressing, there's a few more foods I strongly recommend staying away from when store-bought. Why? These foods are expensive when purchased at the store, and can be made at home for next to nothing. Plus, they're full of hidden added ingredients, such as high fructose corn syrup. Who needs that?

Stay away from these three foods at the grocery store.

NEW! Vegan lemon tahini salad dressing

This vegan lemon tahini salad dressing recipe combines two of my personal favorite salad dressing ingredients - miso, and tahini - which normally wouldn't seem to go good together, but the lemon balances the unusual flavor combination just perfectly, and the miso really just adds a bit of flavor. The end result doesn't really taste like miso at all. This dressing would also be great on cold noodles, or, if you're following a whole foods or vegetarian Slow Carb diet, it'd be great on a bean salad, steamed veggies or, of course, on a salad!
