Fat-free Vegan Orange Banana Breakfast Couscous

I don't really like oatmeal. There, I said it. I just prefer to eat another kind of grain, rather than oatmeal. Don't get me wrong; I love oatmeal cookies (who doesn't!?) but when it comes to a hot breakfast cereal? Meh, I say. Recently, my hot breakfast of choice has been couscous. Let's deconstruct the reasons I've been loving couscous for breakfast:

1. It's quick. Five times out of seven, just about everyone needs a quick breakfast, especially wen adjusting to a back-to-school schedule. Couscous cooks in just a minute or two, and it's as simple as boiling some water.
2. It's cheap. A box of couscous is usually less than $2 and will last you for quite a few breakfasts. Even better? Shop for it in bulk.
3. It's versatile. While most people prefer a sweet cereal and fruit type of breakfast, I sometimes prefer a savory breakfast, so I add some garlic salt, thawed frozen veggies and nutritional yeast.

Convinced? Here's a few quick back-to-school breakfast couscous recipes to try:

7 ways to have quinoa for breakfast

I've almost never been a cereal and milk kinda girl, with the exception of my college years (and even then, I was a cereal and soy milk kinda girl!). I'm not committed to having breakfast foods for breakfast. I'd rather have leftover tofu stir-fry for breakfast (though in much of Asia, tofu IS a breakfast food!).

So quinoa is perfect for me as a breakfast food. Just like couscous, you can eat it like a breakfast porridge with a non-dairy milk, sweetener and fruit, or, check out one of these creative ways to have quinoa for breakfast

Vegan Lemon Tahini Salad Dressing Recipe

This vegan lemon tahini salad dressing recipe combines two of my personal favorite salad dressing ingredients - miso, and tahini - which normally wouldn't seem to go good together, but the lemon balances the unusual flavor combination just perfectly, and the miso really just adds a bit of flavor. The end result doesn't really taste like miso at all.
