I have a theory that even the most grown up among us love indulging in versions of our favorite childhood comfort foods from time to time. Of course, one of the advantages of being an adult is that you can make your comfort foods even better. Like grilled cheese? Make your childhood grilled cheese even better by adding vegetarian bacon.Yes, that's right. Or try grown-up versions of your favorite childhood meals. Here's a few fun (mostly!) grown-up comfort food meals to try.

Grown up grilled cheese

Simply by calling a grilled cheese sandwich a  "panini" it sounds more grown up already, doesn't it? Use artisinal cheeses for your grow up grilled cheese sandwiches - er, paninis - and browse a few of these recipes for inspiration:


Grown up macaroni and cheese

You're never too old for macaroni and cheese, and I certainly recommend that all vegans have their own favorite way to make macaroni and cheese. Here's mine. Here's a few more ways to make a comforting classic past and cheese dish while still claiming to be all grown-up:

 Fried chicken is a classic American comfort food (so I'm told!), so why not try a vegan version if you're in need of some home-cooked comfort? Here's a few varieties to try:
